Hello, I'm
Minju Kim
Research Data Analyst
👋 Hi, I’m Minju Kim, a Research Data Analyst at the Cognitive Development Lab in the Psychological and Brain Sciences Department at Indiana University Bloomington. I am currently in my final semester of MS in Data Science at the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at IUB.
My Journey into Data Science
My path into the world of data science wasn’t traditional. I started with a Business Administration background, gaining a deep understanding of how businesses operate from strategy to execution. While working as a marketing intern in South Korea, I realized how AI and data-driven decision-making were transforming industries. This sparked my curiosity—how do machines learn? How do they see and understand the world?
Determined to explore these questions, I pursued a Master's in Data Science, immersing myself in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, NLP, and Scientific Visualization. My research now focuses on how infants learn to see and process the world with limited visual data, drawing parallels to how AI models perceive and interpret their surroundings.
My Passion for AI & Responsible Innovation
For me, working with AI feels like magic—just as Arthur C. Clarke said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Witnessing machines learn, recognize patterns, and make sense of data is fascinating. But with this magic comes responsibility. I aim to contribute to AI research that enhances human lives while ensuring ethical and thoughtful implementation.
With a strong foundation in data science and AI, I am eager to tackle real-world challenges, develop impactful AI solutions, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. If this resonates with you, let’s connect and collaborate!

Research Data Analyst May 2024 – Present
Cognitive Development Lab, IU Psychological & Brain Sciences Bloomington, IN
• Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) on 100,000 head camera images from infants (US & India), investigating
correlations between edge sparsity, dominant orientation, RMS contrast, and amplitude by spatial frequency slope.
• Analyze image data using GIST descriptors for edge orientation, spatial frequency, and contrast, while applying
feature congestion techniques to assess visual clutter.
• Collaborate effectively in weekly lab meetings, sharing insights, and communicating complex data findings.
Graduate Teaching Assistant Jun. 2024 – Jul. 2024
Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering Bloomington, IN
